Silver Lake Flat Reservoir

About Silver Lake Flat Reservoir
Silver Lake Flat Reservoir is located up American Fork Canyon just a couple miles past Tibble Fork Reservoir and the Granite Flats Turn off. The dirt road that connects the two reservoirs is steep and follows several switchbacks. Although a 4x4 is not required high clearance is recommended as the steep road develops washboards and other erosion caused obstacles.

Although the reservoir is not much larger than Tibble Fork, it is a bit more secluded and get much less use and is a great escape the general crowd of the canyon on a hot summer day. Winter kill afflicts the reservoir every year as it draws down to almost a puddle in the fall. Stocked Rainbow Trout are the target here although Brook Trout can sometimes be caught. Follow the stocking schedules in the early summer for the best fishing times.

Facilities are limited but there is a restroom just past the reservoir at the Silver Lake Trail Head. Camping is limited to primitive tent spots and not allowed within a 1/2 mile from the reservoir. Some of your better camping spots are found about that distance up the dirt road past the stream crossing.

How to Fish
Power Bate and Night Crawlers work well when spoons and spinners are not producing. The best lures for this reservoir are small Castmasters and Jake's Spin-a-lures in gold and green or gold with red spots. The best fishing spots are steep spots off the dam embankments or the shallow inlet area. Although shore access is good, trolling small Rapalas and spinners behind a canoe or kayak can be killer in the middle of the reservoir.
