Whitney Reservoir

About Whitney Reservoir
Whitney Reservoir is a high mountain lake found a 9260' in elevation in the Uinta Mountains a short dirt road drive from SR 150 (Mirror Lake Scenic Byway). The Reservoir is set in a beautiful landscape of mountain meadows and pines. It offers primitive camping opportunities and a small boat ramp with no other facilities.
The Reservoir is large relative to others in the area and is regularly stocked with Rainbow Trout, Tiger Trout and Cutthroat Trout. The reservoir is 70' at its deepest and has a mean depth of 31'. The 188 acre reservoir has 2.6 miles of shoreline fully owned by the Wasatch Cache National Forest with no restrictions to public access. The earth fill dam was built in 1966 for irrigation purposes in Wyoming.

Fishing
Along with most other stocked fisheries in the Uinta Mountains one of the best fishing methods is using power bate and worms behind a casting bubble. Small spinners and spoons also work well and allows for a more exciting fishing experience. Trolling lures behind a small boat, canoe or kayak is a great way to access the center and east side of the reservoir. Shore access is good on the west side and most of the camping takes place close by. Mornings and evenings are the best time to fish but these hungry little stocked fish will feed throughout the day. Fishing can be fast and exciting for pan sized planters with an occasional specimen topping 15 inches. This could be the perfect summer get away location if you are interested in picturesque primitive camping in the Uintas with decent trailor access.

Ice fishing is very productive on the reservoir but access is limited to ATV only during the winter months.
